Many other reports tell us that a conservative guess puts the number of
puppies and kittens born every hour in the U.S. at 10,000. An
estimated 10-15 million dogs are homeless strays. Shelters are called
upon to find new homes for 7 million cats and kittens annually, but
only 4% are placed.
